Actually, during a dispute over whether the other Republican primary candidates could participate in what was supposed to have been a one-on-one between Reagan and Bush in 1980, he yelled "I'm paying for this microphone, Mr. Green!" at the moderator. Whose actual name was Breen.

Plus, you forgot to mention how goofy Michael "Michael" Dukakis looked in that tank in 1988. What a loser.

Bush had the guts to fly combat missions in the Pacific during WWII, but he got painted as the wimp and Reagan got painted as the warrior, probably because Reagan pounded on a table at the right time and said, "I'm paying for this microphone, Mr. Bush." It's all about the pose.

So now you have wannabes like Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani outdoing themselves to prove that they'd have the guts to torture prisoners, while the GOP has decided that the war hero who actually withstood torture isn't their man. And Republicans are swooning over Fred Thomson because he can play a general in a movie.

How many Americans will die in Iraq because George W. Bush doesn't have the guts to face the fact that he screwed up?

Over the last century, the Dems won WWI and WWI, while the Republicans won Grenada, screwed up two wars in Iraq, and ignominously pulled out of Korea and Vietnam after not meeting their objectives.

That kind of says it all. The Party that fought and won two world wars, or the Party that kept Grenada safe for a few local power brokers.

That was a different breed of democrat, as distinguishable from today's dems as Milton Friedman is from Carl Marx. Today's dems are cut and run pussies, fronting for a one world government headed jointly by the third world socialists of the UN and the ChiComs.

If there was a screw-up in the first Gulf War, it wasn't with Desert Storm, it was in the policy decisions at the end and afterward that helped Hussein survive.

Moreover, I'm not sure to what extent we could say they were screw-ups. There were a lot of competing forces pulling at the national interest then.

Of course, we didn't know that Hussein would go on to launch the Oklahoma City bombing and help Al Qaeda attack the Twin Towers. Might have changed the equation. 20/20 hindsight.;)

Noted and agreed. Any screw-ups in Gulf War I were with GHWB, not Powell and Co.

My point really was that, looking back, Republican war waging really isn't something to be proud of. They have a habit of waging wars they can't build support for, and of waging them in a half-assed fashion (which is likely related to the lack of support).

all that matters is the public's perception, as that turns into votes. I happen to think the public's perception is accurate, you seem to feel otherwise. It must be a real bitch for you to know the public thinks your party is a bunch of UN follower weasels, when you know the truth is so much different.

that is meaningless. clinton let 20,000 train in afghanistan. it took 19 of them to handle 9/11. for all practical purposes 20000=several million.
