I think it's funny that it's the dads here who are getting defensive about this issue.

Defensive about what issue? That women who stay at home to take care of kids are slaves?

But you're right -- I can't imagine why I would be defensive (if that's what my comment was) about the notion that my wife is a "slave."

Ignoring the stupidity and bad grammar rampant in this post, does anyone think that "being a member of the bar" is something that requires us to somehow show kind of special compassion and dignity in our ordinary life? I can see that if you're in court you should act like a grownup, but outside of when I'm actually at work and working on work stuff, the fact that I'm a member of the bar doesn't impact my behavior. In fact, if I stopped practicing law (hi ltl/fb!!) I don't think that I would be able to display any less dignity in my personal life than I do now.
No, certain members of the board like to continually point it out that I am a paralegal...but yet I am held to some higher standard than others that I have to be tolerant and rise above and not take bait when it is evident that Ok you're some "BIGLAW atty" that you are supposed to be somewhat mature.

That being said a lot of members of the bar have a seriously flawed personal life.

Maybe this is a "grass is greener" view, but generally, assuming no change in lifestyle, I'd like to be a househusband. I say it all the time irl-except around my boss. If raising kids is slavery and my job is freedom, give me the fucking chains. Now.

Hey -- I have no opinion on whether you made a good or bad decision. Among other things, I never met your ex and I don't know you well enough to have any such opinion. (And I don't know you nearly well enough to voice an opinion on this subject if I had one.)

Besides, Mrs. Finch had the chance with ME. Way different situation.

Issue, theory, opinion are all fine terms to use as far as I'm concerned. My point was if someone calls your spouse a slave, and the spouse isn't there to defend themself, isn't it sort of your duty as a husband or wife to refute the assertion?

Because I don't understand why people feel the need to take one person's position about how she would feel in that situation as an indictment of one's own lifestyle. Gwnc doesn't want kids. You and your wife -- and my husband and I -- obviously do. So we already have fundamental differences.

I'm not offended by what she wrote and I would love to stay at home.

I wouldn't, though largely because the lack of adult human interaction would drive me nuts. That hasn't been a problem for Mrs. Finch, but I think stay-at-home dads have a lot more difficulty forming a network.

They aren't floppy.

And my husband stays home. it ain't a life of servitude.

And I had opptys. to stay home, a couple of very successful ex boyfriends but I wasn't interested. As evidenced by my choices...

It doesn't matter *who* stays home as long as someone who loves that child does.

They do so well with a parent home. sigh

Jesus H. I said "My slave never seems to feel so deathly bored with her work that she is willing to watch Round 43 of the ppnyc/TM battle for hours on end."

This is a JOKE. It does not convey that I took Gwinky's position as "an indictment of my lifestyle." I don't even take it as her "position." It was just a comment that she tossed onto the board, and I tossed one back.

I'm not offended by what she wrote either.

What is interesting is the animosity between women who work and are moms and women who stay at home. I think that whatever choice you make is cool. doesn't mean you are a good mom or bad mom either way.

Saab 9-3
Acura TL
Infiniti G35 (2007)
Adobe
Other

I am not offended, I agree its just choice. Work v. stay at home. Kids v . no kids. Marriage v no marraigh.

But to call one choice regarding stay at home or work slavery, doesn't make sense. Unless the person in the role truly did not have an effective choice. Or was shackled or something. npi.

I think that animosity is bullshit mainly fueled by the media. I have never witnessed it, and my friends - about 50/50 on SAH vs. WOH (or "work for pay," in the PC parlance) haven't really encountered it, either.

I got the sense from some of his posts that he was losing confidence in the position he had taken. I was just trying to show him some support. A sort of virtual arm around his shoulders half-hug kind of thing. Was this wrong?

Staying home is hard work. my kids kick my hubby's ass every.single.day.

camp/football/soccer/homework/baby [toddler] food/cooking/laundry repeat. I mean mix up the sports throw in some lessons or acting lessons but man it is hard work and grueling the patience he has.

The kids are sweet and doing well. I sacrifice every day to do it.

I think we need a little more guidance here. What do you want, and not want?

When I bought my car, I was looking for a convertible with a real back seat (for the kid) that got solid reviews from Consumer Reports and similar sources. That narrowed me down really quickly (to the BMW 325 and a Mercedes that was too expensive). But I don't know how you got from a Grand Cherokee to the stuff on your list.

That said, while I don't like the A3, I love the A4.
