Same here. Also, don't live near my grade school or high school friends (most never left my hometown).

Best friends are college buddies and friends from law school. Absolute best friend is my college roommate. Also good friends with some people from work with whom I'll go out occasionally.

Since I only get "home" a couple of times a year (if that), I only keep in touch with a few people there.

For the record, I am married to a guy who is generally smarter than I am in a strictly IQ kind of way, but way dumber than me in a "how much do I tip this guy" and "how do you find a plumber" kind of way.

I know many men who are, in fact, stimulated by a woman who is quicker than they are. I call many of those men my pals. But, in my experience, and from observing the experience of many of my girlfriends, a large number of men are not interested in those *challenging* woman.

Now, clearly the men here on the FB are superior men, and each and every one of you (except Coltrane) loves a woman smarter than you or desires to love a woman smarter than you. But Larry, who balances your tires? And Gordo in office services? And Andy who works at the Bank? Well, them not so much.

If acting and designing clothing/accessories because they caught my fancy = working, I worked nearly full time during HS and college. I am more industrious than I thought! Good thing, 'cause I've been feeling that slacker vibe coming on of late.

I'd best go home early so I can devote myself to my second job as a stylist and figure out what I'm going to wear tomorrow.

I don't know how much friendship you have with people who don't have extensive education or good jobs or know a lot about literature or history or other topics like that. I have some. My best friend in the world never went to college, and he's made some really stupid life decisions. And I would guess that I have more contact with people outside of my "demographic" than most people in my situation. But who knows; this is all anecdotal.

Really, I don't think that average guy really cares how intelligent the woman he is going after is. He cares how attractive she is, he cares whether or not she's fun to hang around, he cares whether or not she wants to do the kind of things that he wants her to do.

I can't help but see statements like "men don't want to be with women smarter than them" as the same kind of hateful statements like "women only care about money." I know that you don't really intend them that way, and I've got no reason to make me think that you have attitudes towards men I would consider offensive or unhealthy, I'm just saying how that statement sounds to me.

Public K-12: I met my best friends in elementary school, high school and college. My definition of "best friends" are those people I'd have stand for me at my wedding.

Friends that were there with you when you were really growing up will almost always know you a little better. They know how you got there and they most likely went through the exact same things you did. They know how much you've changed (for better or worse) and will definitely let you know about it ("you never used to be such an asshole"). We need that feedback.

My childhood friends have always been the most straightforward with me. They'll tell me when I'm being a dick, or when they think that they never would have thought that I would volunteer for something. They understand why certain decisions are made that even college friends wouldn't understand.

Personality-wise, we probably resemble our college friends more than our childhood friends. We may be more comfortable with our college friends and enjoy more mutual interests than our childhood friends. But our childhood friends know us better. They knew you when you were stupid(er) and confused(er). And they were with you when you blew up that mailbox or got pummeled in that crab apple fight. They knew you when you weren't you yet.


I have one female best friend (high school). The others are male (childhood, HS, college).
