The neighbors (the Tuchers) just drove up, and they have their grand kids in the back seat of their car. They have stopped to check out the deer and kids eyes look like saucers. The cats have decided to brave it outside among the wildlife. When I opened the sliding glass doors the Buck looked at me and I am pretty sure he was telling me that it was OK for the cats to come out but I better keep my derriere in the house.

It's more like Forrest Gump with a junior highschooler who is interning at the Heritage Foundation.

And I didn't think "Deer like, deer like, deer like, me"* was that funny.

*Perhaps one too many "deer like," in here.

Bad move. When the cougar come, we, uh, they may go for the cats instead of the deer.

Anyone know why they like the Apples (which I also found surprizing) but have no interest in the Apricots?

No, it's not quite that exciting. I'm seriously considering retiring from the PB. It's been very boring lately, so boring, that I've become a voyeur of the PB.

It would have to be one big and mean cougar to want to mess with that buck. Those antlers look like they could do some serious damage.

Are they long and thick and really really hard?

Also, that is just another reason for the cougar to go after the cats. The buck won't defend the cats.

The squirrel in my back yard has become decidedly less interesting. The dogs will interact with the squirrel, though, so I guess that's a bonus.

Do you mean they will hang out and play. That is pretty strange.

The puppy likes to chase the birds at the birdfeeder. The squirrel who also eats at the birdfeeder "plays" with the puppy if taunting qualifies as play. Basically, when the puppy runs outside to chase everything, the squirrel gets as close as he can to her without being in danger (usually the overhang of the porch or the fence) and then stares her down. The puppy sits and quivers in anticipation, because she's been trained that good puppies that sit get the treats. The squirrel doesn't fall for it. She'll start barking and the squirrel won't move. Eventually, my older dog comes running and barks at the squirrel, who realizes that my older dog isn't as interested in taunting / playing.

It's probably only cute to me.

My cats kill squirrels if they catch them. It is a real mess. It is like bird and rodent Auschwitz in my yard.
