religion and route numbers
another fine example of religion in action - the following is an exerpt from an actual resolution passed by the new mexico state legislature calling for the renaming of u.s. route 666:
"WHEREAS, people living near the road already live under the cloud of opprobrium created by having a road that many believe is cursed running near their homes and through their homeland; and WHEREAS, the number "666" carries the stigma of being the mark of the beast, the mark of the devil, which was described in the book of revelations in the Bible; and HEREAS, there are people who refuse to travel the road, not because of the issue of safety, but because of the fear that the devil controls events along United States route 666; and WHEREAS, the economy in the area is greatly depressed when compared with many parts of the United States, and the infamy brought by the inopportune naming of the road will only make development in the area more difficult." Polls...Last Comic Standing Update without Spoiler Space
Quote:
At some point, if you perform some act with enough enthusiasm, it's presumed you enjoy it. This notion explains why some people think I like being a BIGLAW lawyer. My point w/r/t Ms. Page is that 1) she was the complete package physically, 2) she was incredibly sexy (I saw some some striptease reel and she could shake everything her maker gave her), and 3) she was willing to enthusiastically indulge a man's fantasy, even if it was far outside the mainstream. Bettie Page hits the lust trifecta. In other news, Dat continues to roll in Last Comic Standing, though I thought Jeff's stuff wasn't fresh or sharp. I attribute Dat's popularity with the crowd to a repressed longing for the stereotypical Asian male funnyman of the 80's. Dat seems comfortable with fairly hackneyed material, full of accents and whatnot. I say let him have the sitcom. What if Long Duc Dong from Sixteen Candles was now a Driver's Ed teacher at the same suburban high school where he was an exchange student? What if Toshiro Takashi from Revenge of the Nerds had a son who went to the same college? Plus, I'm pretty sure that Julia Montgomery is free to reprise her role as Betty Childs...now the oversexed Assistant Dean. My talents are clearly being wasted in a law office instead of a studio. |
desperately seeking dating advice
I recently met a woman who i thought was lovely, intelligent, nice, toned, blond, tan, early 30s, potentially 'complete package' material. Says shes really ready for a relationship, wnats a bf. She was emphatic about wanting to find someone who was empathetic and she thought she sensed that in me. I sense that in me too. We go out a few itmes, shes demonstrative around me, we have great convos, and we definitely want to see each other agin. Ive emailed and called trying to get another date but shes been busy and gives me a believable solid explanationfor being incredibly busy at work. Aiiight. Last week she couldnt see me during the week becuz of work, and then she left town for the weekend for a friends 35th bday party, says we'll have to bget toegther the following week. thats now this week.
i snet her a causual email tues asking what her schedule was like. she repolied yesterday with a very friendly chatty message which happens to include this, Quote:

1) it appears to be anon abuse and 2) given the hour it was posted it is probably the dreaded coup d'skek I will reply anyway. I think I learned from a Friends episode that when asking someone out you cant be half assed and say "what is your schedule like" or "I have two extra tickets to the Knicks game". You have to say., " Would you like to have dinner with me Saturday night?". She is probably irritated with your pussyfooting around and might be throwing a Rules maneuver of book early in to boot. I would ask her out for Sat night as I assume drywalling is a day activity. though the rules impose a Wedneday deadline for Sat night so you might have blown it. |

For what it's worth (exactly half the amount needed to catch a train to Nevada), I would consider a blow job cheating - giving or receiving. |

As for energy bars, they are little more than expensive candy bars, processed, loaded with sugar. You can get the same benefit by taking a supplement. They are the biggest scam around. Go to http://www.drweil.com[/url] on the subject. maybe he can recommend something for you? edited to toss in a couple of back slashes. |

With all the due-est of respect of course.
Now, i am still not following this thing bc I have not been convinced that it might be interesting (but I dont bike so that may explain it). But I would be pretty unstoked if you posted such a thing on say, the US Open, bc 1) it is potential spoiler (but I dont know how long ago the results were posted) 2) If I wnated to read an article on this, I know where the NYT website is and I check in with it a few times a day. I am sure many of us do. If it was an obscure site, like lileks or someting,. that might make more sense. I guess I just dont see the point of this post except to say "ha ha, I saw the results first" or something. Sorta like being the first to post about American Idol or something? Also, what is with this Zone business? Do you make all your meals by a book or measure them out or somethign? THis sound really neurotic to me. Why cant people just work out a reasonable amount, eat lots of fruits and vegetables and whole grains and limit animal products, sugar and white flour? Its a no brainer. To quote Richard Simmons "never say diet!" I was at a bar with a bunch of people and this petite little bird announced to her boyfriend and the table that she isnt drinking bc she just started on a no carb diet. Its like, shut the fuck up you anorexic freak. You are gonna gain it all back in two weeks (which is fine since you dont need to lose it) when y ou compensate for the deprivaion. Who wants to hear about diets? It is so eighties to diet. |

Since you're not a TdF freak like some of us you wouldn't realize of course, so your point is otherwise well taken, but there is no way in hell that when E/O posted it was a spoiler for anyone. That said, Tyler has the most incredible capacity for pain of anyone in his field--so, any athlete on the planet. Truly, the next time some whiny golfer or tennis freak whines about their wrist or elbow or hamstring, they ought to be freely slapped. Edited to say, after yesterday's stage, Petacchi is reluctantly off my crush list--I agree with Baden Cooke, he's a wuss. :( |

Cybersex
Okay, so there was this PhD chick on O'Reilly last night who said that cybersex is cheating. Now, I have never understood how one gets off by typing things like "I have my mouth on your cock" to one another but to each his/her own I suppose and I can't see where it is cheating any more than having a crush on CZ-J or something. Oddly enough, the PhD chick seemed to be implying that even having a thought about sex not involving your mate was tantamount to cheating. This stuff goes beyond the "is a blow-job sex" debate and into a really weird place. I wonder if she would still consider it cheating if it turned out that a dude's cybersex partner was really a 50 year old fat bald guy rather than the "Marilyn Monroe look-alike" he thought he as chatting with. Does anyone here agree with the PhD chick?

I think I may have to agree with Lester (!) that there are many posts of middling interest to various people (and I know I am guilty of this as well). I wonder if there is a way to ingore posts with a certain keyword in the header since sports dont stay on the sports board (and I usually only post tennis results for the people on my laminated list who are bangable and therefore it is FB apppropriate). |
