It's never too early to start planning for this, and ESPN has opened up its bracket contest. E/O (who?) and Greedy x 3 get a few more days to brag about last year's tie for victory.

So, to join in the fun, I created a private group at ESPN.com-->Fantasy Games-->Tournament Challenge for our little clique.

After you've created an entry*, search for the group

LawTalkers

It's a private group. You need the following password to join:

YSBDetails

One entry each (i.e., per primary sock), in case some prize comes along, and we need to keep it fair.

The brackets are posted sometime sunday night after they're announced (Mar. 13). I think the entries are locked on Thurs. morn before the first game. You can get the details at the ESPN site.

* Note that to maintain anonymity you should use/create an account that does not bear your real name. The name on your account will appear in the standings (as does your "entry" name).

(edited to clarify that it's one entry per "real" person, not one for each of your many socks).

Sponsorship

RT is putting up a gift certificate for the winner.

We'll use the ESPN tiebreaker system, whatever it is, to settle any tie. Unless RT can split the certificate. What do I care? I never win these things.

We really should do a women's bracket too (I'll take Connecticut there as well). It doesn't look like ESPN or SI have an on-line variation. Anyone know of one?

Thanks. I must be going blind.

For the avoidance of doubt, Fred Miller is one of my other anonymous internet identities. Just so you know it's me who is winning the pool.

I refuse to be in a pool with someone who would post this. Burger you either exclude him, or I'm out.

Let the baby have his bottle. He can win that pool, by himself.

Y'all should watch some women's basketball sometime.

Boston is a great sports city, but some of the most fun in sports in the last 10 years were the years there was a real UConn/UMass women's basketball rivalry.

Go Huskies!

Trying to find an out, are you? I note you did not take up my challenge on the fashion board.

Not likely. Have you seen the picks?

Plus I am happy to inform everyone that since I have gone and picked Illinois to go all the way, they now have no chance.

I have two entries? I've only filled one out so I don't know how that would happen. I'll go investigate.

ETA - no idea who the capitalized N. Case is. I am not case. I mean, why would I capitalize notcasesensitive? Does not compute.

EFTA - N. Case is "Nut Case". As in Nut Case, Sensitive. I presume. Nuts!!

Oh great. Sock entries.

I see your point on caps. But ESPN might not.

Not that I'm N. Case or whatever.

True. I meant primary sock. In other words, Penske doesn't get 412 entries.

Oh. I didn't read it that way, and was kinda surprised people got multiple entries for their socks.

So is it an advantage or disadvantage for BC to be playing their first game on St. Patrick's day?

At least it's in the afternoon.

It's an advantage for the bars in Boston. Those who didn't call in sick today, will be coming down with 'something' this afternoon so they can squeeze into a bar to watch the game.

You mean you didn't pick Ohio to win it all? I would pay money to see the UAB/Gonzaga/Ohio/Cincinatti Final Four.

Whoa.
YOu should call the networks and see if they can set that up for you. Becaue that would be the shittiest final four ever.

They really suck. Didn't they have this problem last year too? How hard is it to make sure your servers are good for the amount of traffic you are GUARANTEED you will have during the tournament? Don't run fucking tournaments if you can't handle the traffic.

I had problems with the site last year.

Don't feel bad. I picked them to go all the way in my real pool -- the one where actual money is at stake. Because I'm stupid.

Kentucky. I made that mistake last year. I think my entire final 4 was out by the second round.
But I couldn't make myself pick UConn (fuckers) or Duke (fuckers).
Had I known then, that my picking a team is THE kiss of death, I would have chosen my teams more carefully.

And ESPN was inexcusably 2 minutes behind MSNBC (yes I was following both websites). And ESPN was always about 2-3 minutes behind. So try here next time.

Great job. You are a 99th percentiler. Bask away.

Adding to the ncs or NFH confusion here, the two of us seem to have made basically the same picks all the way through.

What are you, their corporate shill? MSNBC sucks, mainly because of the MS part. It's a sucky portal, with sucky news, that works only if you use the world's suckiest (and virus-attracting) browser. NBC can suck it too, for joining with MS in this pathetic venture.
