I didn't realize that either. But my thread title* has been used, so I'm out of the races.

I never know how to handle the switchover.

So . . . .

Real blue collar people loved the first two albums. They were blue collar music. After those, his music was taken over by non-blue-collar people who thought there was something edgy and cool and romantic about blue-collaredness - yuppies who thought a lack of money could make intrinsically distasteful people cool. Real people who lacked money knew better. Bruce was just writing about assholes with no money. No, we had lots of AC/DC instead.

Pistols and Sabbath get in.

Should be interesting to see whether Johnny refuses to go, or shows up and makes some sort of spectacle of himself.

Oh yeah.

And (at least for white folks) Pink Floyd, Skynyrd, Neil Young and for the younger set, Guns & Roses and metal bands.

This is painful. They waited too long for Ozzie. I grew up on War Pigs and Paranoid, but now he's sitting over in England writing a rock opera about Rasputin. It's like inducting a famous football player when he's in Depends. It's just too late.

Fair enough. But over the weekend, VH1 was showing the UK Rock Hall of Fame, or something to that effect. Sabbath played Paranoid, and still sounded pretty damn good.

I'm guessing the (white folk) blue collar contingent of the RRHoF voting populous voted Black Sabbath in.

My only complaint is that last year, they toasted me and expressed gratitude that I came into their lives. This year, the toast was simply to the baby. As if the baby just magically came into the world with no effort on my part.

My moment in the sun was so brief. Now I am but an afterthought. {Sigh.}
Welcome to the rest of your life.

Indeed. I should have listed them instead of Blue Oyster Cult (but not instead of Foghat) in the classic rock example of what blue collar workers of the "white folk" subcategory listen to these days.

Poetry, baby. Pure poetry.

work safe- other than some scanty-clad banner ads.

Here's what whiffing can turn into if you move away from the safe internet chat room into the real world of prison. It's why it is so important to call out people who whiff at ever trun, so they can grow. Turns out it can do a lot more harm than just stepping on a good joke.

Oh no!! I am truly saddened.

On the bright side, when you do find her ghost, she will have lots of stories to spice up this board which is notably lacking in spice lately (my fault as much as anyone's).

Was Danny Almonte the number 1 starter on the team?

Oh God, how the fuck did the debate over whether the Boss is overrated turn into a roundtable seminar on classicism in rock?

I don't see Bruce as blue collar. Shit, he wrote about LBI, which ain't cheap stomping grounds (even in the 70s). The misinterpreted point I made was that his characters were too regional and time specific for him to ever reach the leval of Dylan, Dead, Doors, Sinatra, Cash, etc... Johnny Cash was the supposed epitome of blue collar music, yet his characters appealed across the board, to everybody. Bruce doesn't fail because his characters are stuck in the Mill, or spreading tar on a road crew. Bruce fails in my book because his characters are stuck in Central to Southern Jersey in the 70s. People were enamored with that scene back in the 70s, but not any more. Bruce is a solid rock star who had the good fortune to burst onto the scene while there were no good rock albums being made.

But of course the man is insanely talented. Shit, he must connect with somebody. But for a music snob like me, he's just not cutting it. Close, but not quite there. He can arguably hang with Bobby, but doesn't belong in the same hotel with Jerry. And he's not qualified to shine Cash's boots.
