The Mojito is dead
As though to confirm that the mojito is dead (unlike the Pisco Sour, which is top secret cool):
N.J. Community Renaming Itself Mojito This has been around for three days. I can't believe I'm the first to bring it up. |

Reality TV
Having skipped much of the Friends finale (boring) in favor of Extreme Makeover Home Edition (semi-annoying but watchable) and the NBA, I have a spinoff suggestion for the networks.
I want to see Extreme Makeover, Job Edition. They can start with me and send in a team of crack contract litigators to clean up the boring shit that is currently clogging my desk and in box. Then, marketing experts will assist in making a move to client work that is actually enjoyable and profitable at the same time. Or, failing that, they can blow the rest of the budget on tuition to get me into film school or something. ABC, you listening? |
Friends finale
So I'm curious to hear from people who have watched the show for the last few years whether they liked the finale or not. I thought it was bad. But I haven't watched for at least 5 years, so I don't think I was supposed to like it. And I am happy that it is finally over. Food does still taste good, RT. It might even taste better now, but don't tell NBC. Anyone willing to fess up to being a Friends-watcher?
In other tv news, Survivor was quite good last night. And they are setting up for a very bitter and angry final tribal counsel. s p o i l e r s I think that Rob and Amber's betrayal was totally out of the blue for Big Tom. The way he looked back at them as he was leaving... Ouch. He is a buffoon though, and I was happy to see him go. Anyone willing to wager at all against Amber winning the whole thing? |

Even with 250 episodes or so, I don't think I can remember the plot of more than a few, if that. It's like junk food--it seems enjoyable at the time, but it's an utterly unmemorable show. Does it have some funny, laughable moments? Sure. But for the most part the humor was pretty banal and lightweight compared to, e.g., Seinfeld, for which many of the episodes were memorable in themselves, as well as the lines they spawned. What does friends have? "Could I be ____ any more ___" and "How YOU doin'" and "On a break" That's pretty much it, I think. As for the finale, again, banal. If not insulting slapstick stupid at times. It wraps up everything in a neat bow, although other than Ross and Rachel, what was left to wrap up? The sex of the Monica's baby? whoop-t-do. We can all relax knowing that they'll all be happy. and we get to see Joey continue to be joey, at least until the inevitable move to Saturday night in mid-November and cancelation in January. Have we had the "best series finale ever" debate? My vote remains The Wonder Years, but I never watched MASH or MTM. |

I didn't watch the finale, though because I had other things to do. |

Hot or not?
Quote:
In any event, I've known a number of very hot women (by both male and female standards, whatever those are). All but one of them had a good number of female friends, even the bitchy ones, though the bitchy ones tended to have bitchier friends (not necessarily better looking and thus more "competitive" friends, I'd note). All of the hotties had a noticeable minority of women act strangely around them on occasion, but it seemed to my observation a comparable number to those who appeared to treat them with more interest or respect because of their looks. The one who didn't have any female friends was as crazy as PLF's haberdasher, and had a bad case of the aristocratic vice (i.e.: saying whatever she wanted to whomever she wanted, which in her case was often AMAZINGLY insulting). Her shunning by women was definitely personality related, and definitely women didn't put up with while a lot of men did (she insulted men just as freely as women). Oddly for a woman who was so good looking that men would turn around in the middle of the street just to follow her for hours (literally, and witnessed first hand multiple times), or maybe not so oddly, she was really, really insecure about her looks. I am more interested in why men and women tend to think different people are really gorgeous. I have a vague notion that women give more credit to polish, while men give more credit to big boobs. I don't even have enough annecdotal evidence to hazard a guess, though. |
