Teething, how long do the sleepless nights last?
 

Hello, newbie parent question here.

My 7 month old no longer sleeps like the peaceful baby he used to be. (wakes up every 2-3 hrs -he used to sleep 8-9 hrs per night!) Since he was tugging on his ears, I thought ear infection. However, Ped says just teething. Augh, how long does this stage last? Also, has anyone used anything that helps the poor little guys? (I have tried ambesol, etc)

The littlest Panda is also going through this. She only fussed a couple of days, but so far naught but a single tooth has emerged, and so we're waiting for the other shoes to drop.

No expert, but I'd not use ambesol. I give her Children's Tylenol, and that seems to help.

I don't recall at what age they can start using it (But I think 6 months), but the baltspawn were really helped by Infant Advil. A dose lasts longer than a Tylenol dose, and it's both an analgesic and an anti-inflamatory (Tylenol is just an analgesic). Plus, they are two completely different kinds of medicines, so you can give both a once if one isn't cutting it alone (this is NOT true of Advil and aspirin and naproxin, all of which are related, but you wouldn't give any of those to a kid anyway).

The baltspawn had "teething pain" off and on for a couple of months before any actual teeth showed up. But it wasn't constant. So you aren't necessarily in store for months of misery, but don't be surprised if a tooth fails to show for a while.

Once they do start coming in, they keep coming in regularly (but not constantly) until about 2.

Seriously. They're cold, soft enough not to hurt tender gums, and they get mushy instead of breaking off into choke-sized pieces. Eggos saw us through both of our kids teething and nothing else worked.

A). What he said. Break them up into 2"-3" pieces. Also, the baby chew toys that can be frozen are good.

B). Last night my fifteen-year-old woke me up three times because he "didn't feel right". Point being, it never really goes away. If it's not teething, it's separated ribs from football. You can sleep once they're away at college.

Except for the nights you're worried that they're doing the shit you did in college. Then you sit up all night with the cold sweats.
