Nasalchrom? I think I used to use something like that when I was little. It wasn't very effective for me, because contrary to popular belief, not all 8 year olds like shoving things up their noses on a regular basis.
ETA: I just saw your edit. Hmmm. Maybe I'll try it again. Something around here must be peaking in its pollen, 'cause my sinuses are killing me.
