You mock this device, but I think it is effective. When my eyes scan a sentence that has been unnaturally broken up by periods, my brain automatically puts little pauses between the words. I cannot help it. On a related note, on the door of a hair place I sometimes go to, it says "Walk. Right. In." I always thought it was an odd way to write that untill I started seeing this device used here on the boards. Now I really appreciate the dramatic effect of the welcoming message on the door.
