Maybe it actually started as a not-so-veiled allusion to the evil weed and so it's supposed to be funny and subversive for lawyer types to say it, kind of like, wink wink, I know I seem buttoned up to you, like a dork who uses consultant-speak because he thinks it sounds clever, but that's deliberate and therefore ironic, and by the way, I'm really wild and free, or at least a slacker, at heart.
