Oh fuck, of course Bush never really lied. He's a greenhorn, but he isn't that stupid. Its Political Survival 101 to always keep a distance from any decision which could cost you your office. The people below Bush lied to him and he should have known they were lying. He said point blank to Clarke - "Revise this memo... get me something better on the Iraq connection." Fuck, you need me to explain what that means? Bush engaged in what law enforcement prosecutes as 'willful ignorance." He had an agenda, he knew those below him had the same agenda and he knew they were smart enough to allow him to make the decision that fit his agenda without ever having to actually say "Goddamnit... go get me a fucking pretext!!!" His cabinet are all old GOP hands, some of whom worked for Nixon and Ford. they know the importance of not creating a paper trail.
Bush is like his buddy Ken Lay. Only no one prosecutes the President for willful ignorance.
If I'm wrong, and Bush was just ignorant of the real facts, I'm very scared. I'd rather he be malevolent and conniving than that stupid.
Oh, and as to the comment that Clinton supported W's war and was privy to the same intelligence, bullshit. Bubba wants to rewrite his legacy. He's lying his ass off to appear a hardass to gird against charges that the whole Queda mess was his fault in the first place. I like Bubba, but he's a snake. Funny, though, isn't it? The GOP calls him the world's biggest liar, but when he supports Bush, they cite his word as Exhibit A for why Bush was right.
