I am not sure what you mean by moral basis, then. Most if not all major religions take the position that the haves should give portions of their wealth to help the have nots. Although Karl Marx may have been anti-religion, the economic system he advocated for was in line with the teachings of JC. While I know that religion is not synonymous with morality,
see e.g., islam, many people, perhaps even most people, look to religion for morality.
