That was never my point. My point was that because most employers provide it because the market demands it, those who don't, preying upon the weakest tranche of the labor force deserve to be villified for expoliting those workers and for imposing additional externalties on the rest of us by increasing the costs of the system to those who do pay.

And health care is not gratis. Not to the employer or the employee. It is a cost to the employer, just like wages, and a benefit to the employee. Health insurance is simply a form of additional compensation that those in the marketplace who have power demand as a cost of their labor. Not paying for it is a windfall for those who exploit the disadvantaged.
