It's been a decade, and we're locked and loaded. Look out, Bambi.

I don't really know what the crime statistics for Virginia are, either. But I do know that when I lived in Texas, the vast majority of child fatalities were a result of kids playing with guns. In Chicago, more child fatalities come from older kids playing with guns. Any way you slice it, an awful lot of peope seem to get killed by them. I think that would suggest they aren't a good thing to place in the hands of the yahoos that make up the bulk of the American public.
Well I can't really disagree with what you said starting with "Any way you slice it". I'm all in favor of allowing and encouraging concealed-carry for various classes (military, otherwise trained and vetted civilians), but certainly not everybody. As for the children, I'd be interested to see if the gun-owners in the child-fatality cases tend to be the same gun-owners that would qualify for concealed-carry. You know, no prior felonies etc. etc. While occasionally you hear stories in Chicago about cops' kids, the bulk that come to my mind are kids who find guns that were obtained and hidden by criminals. Of course, Chicago is a special case of mass-stupidity and criminality (see, e.g., da Mare and pals), so I'm pretty sure I'm opposed to concealed-carry here/there.

BTW, neither you nor anyone else seemed to pick up on the Chicago and Oakland reference. The question wasn't supposed to be whether the smart liberals live there. The obvious question should have been why in the world I would use those as models of safety based on concealed-carry tolerance. I know, I know, yawwwwwnnnn, I gotta quit throwing up these softballs to the conservatives here (and thanks for playing y'all).

On another note, somewhere in Chicago, my cousin's girlfriend (who is another lawyer) has gotta be telling people this week how I and my brother in law shouted her down in a debate on presidentical politics by chanting "U.S.A., U.S.A.". If anyone hears that story, say hello for me. I highly recommend this tactic for anyone on the left or the right in their next political debate, as I don't think we could possibly have flustered her more using any other tactic. I'd love to see what O'Reilly would do if a leftist did this to him.

Hello
