How tiresome. Mumsie always says that she
much prefers the tea plantation in Ceylon that Poppy's father gave her (in appreciation of her discretion regarding what he called "the unfortunate Century Club incident") after the wedding to the Abyssinian Star (the legendary diamond liberated by Sir Richard Burton from the Mahdi's seraglio in Khartoum) she received before the wedding.
"Whenever anyone says 'what's that got to do with the price of tea in China?' to me, I merely smile. Tea, my dear Snidely," she used to say when she still spoke to me "is this girl's best friend."
