It is possible that a man who doesn't have much money would be insecure about this lack of funds. Such an insecure person would probably be very sensitive about the size of his fiance's engagement ring. A small ring combined with the large pendant from the woman's previous relationship would really get under an insecure guy's skin and become an issue for that guy.
