You can oppose gay marriage and at the same time understand that the Full Faith and Credit clause renders DOMA unconstitutional. As a lawyer, you shouldn't really have any trouble grasping this concept.
If you really need help perhaps you could look to the jurisprudence of Justices Thomas, Scalia, and Rehnqusit, all of whom oppose abortion but are perfectly capable of reognizing the controlling precedential nature of
Roe v. Wade.
