I've never understood it either. I have a (Baptist) friend who married a half-Jewish guy (practicing Baptist). Admitedly he's a bit of a tool, but not because of any religion. Her mother hasn't spoken to her since the wedding. Mom's an equal opportunity hater, though: Her brother married a Baptist Korean girl. The mom hasn't spoken to him either.
I can't imagine having that much hate in my life.
I think it is somewhat regional. Here we get a lot of anti-Mexican comments. And most people making these comments refer to anyone of Hispanic descent as Mexican (offensive enough by itself).
