I've never understood it either. I have a (Baptist) friend who married a half-Jewish guy (practicing Baptist). Admitedly he's a bit of a tool, but not because of any religion. I think it is somewhat regional. Here we get a lot of anti-Mexican comments. And most people making these comments refer to anyone of Hispanic descent as Mexican (offensive enough by itself).
