While I'll keep my mouth shut about bringing guns to the terminals (no I won't, they should be banned for anyone accept law enforcement, just like they should be banned in schools... and maybe city halls and definitely courtrooms and police stations and municipial buildings where transactions can take place and any business that posts a sign saying "no guns"...), I will note that banning them on the roads, e.g., the Dulles Access Road, is/was fucking absurd. The road runs right by McLean and Reston where a good part of the open-carry protests took place. The road has a history where they make it sound like it was built as a favor to the local residents, but the favor by the federal government should not extend in any way to banning guns in your car or what-have-you when they aren't banned just off the exit ramps.

Its the same reason municipalities shouldn't be allowed to set these policies, at least on people travelling through. You could drive from one non-interfering suburb without risk and inadvertently go to another interfering city or suburb at great risk of a felony arrest. Just as an example, police in some cities that ban guns are known to target truckers, knowing that many interstate truckers carry guns in their cabs. Hey, some guy driving down the Dan Ryan through Chicago for 25 minutes should not be targeted for unlawful use of a weapon. All they are doing is meeting a quota, while ignoring the street criminals in the dangerous neighborhoods that line the highway.

The article notes that the law wasn't enforced on the Dulles Access Road, and its partly because the people and police in Virginia appear to have more sense than almost any other place in God's Great Country except maybe Silicon Valley and New York City. Again, don't start nothing, won't be nothing.

But it sounds like somebody went a bit overboard if they are tolerating any yahoo who brings a gun into a terminal. That is bullshit.

Hello
