Based on....? I remember there was a fight in the mountains, and that someone saw a tall guy. i remember some US troops were there but that one of the fights was mostly Afghans. Since he was able to run into Paki in your version, away from the Afghans, why couldn't he run from Americans into Paki (ps i think he is dead)?
