Its not even up for debate. The Dems have to use Rehnquist's illness to hammer home the point that Bush will likely get to pick a nominee. Its not despicable to cite the fact that these justices are old and may retire. They know their age; I doubt they'll be offended.
Its funny how the kill-em-all GOP folks get so Hallmarky sensitive and overly-reverent on issues such as Mary Cheney's sexual orientation and Rehnquist's age. This sounds pretty damn funny coming from the people who brought us "Willie Horton". It would be criminally stupid for the Dems not to hammer on the Justice replacement issue with such a perfect opportunity at their feet.
