So long as you remove the bag while loudly using the words "unattended bag" and "security risk," I'm sure several other passengers will get with your program and also insist that the attendant remove it and have the Feds blow it up on the tarmac. At the very least they will get on the PA to make the owner come claim it.
BR(I once had an unattended bag that was "saving" a seat at a crowded airport bar removed by security so I could sit down - you do not want to fuck with some people when they are tired and cranky and don't want to be stuck in an airport bar in Fuckoff ND - but I learned that, in this day and age, if you use the term "security risk" in a loud voice you can actually make airport and airline employees do their jobs)C
