The legal thing is the main reason. I drink mostly in social situations, and it'd be hard to light up with the people I work with (well, some of them anyway). Harder still to do it in a bar or club.

That, and convenience, which is really the legal thing in disguise. I want to get drunk, I go to a bar or a store and buy some booze. Drugs are not so readily available, or so I hear.

And Atkins. Let's not forget Atkins. Yes, most alcoholic beverages have carbs. But you can control it a little better and make some choices in advance. It's a lot harder to keep yourself from diving into the potato chips when the munchies hit. Or so I hear.
