Me thinks thou doth protest too much. Or, at the minimum, that you are reading too much into Ms. Sage's statement.
If you examine the statement closely, all it really does is reaffirm the intuitive grasp of statistics possessed by all Red Staters. If you think about it, why yes, if this kind of freakish, senseless tragedy were to happen, the odds are far greater that it would happen in New York or LA than in Podunk, Kansas. I'd say that, barring outside factors*, the chances are roughly 18,000,000 to 420 that this would be the case.
If you consider the statement that way, it has nothing to do with the culture wars (unlike, say, your response), the nature of people who live in The United States of Canada, or any of the other crap. Given that the person uttering the statement was probably a simple Red Stater ambushed by a big-city reporter, I would be loath to subscribe any evil to her comment.
All the best,

* Let's save, for the sake of brevity, the argument over whether the environments in KS or NY/LA tend to be more likely to breed people who commit such awful crimes.
P.S. Susan Smith was from South Carolina and Andrea Yates was from Texas, so let's leave the Heartland out of this.

Dear ilikenewsocks:
This post is rather puzzling to me. After weeks of continuous posting in a style that can only be described as relentlessly generic, I log in on this freezing-rain filled Monday morning to find you have abandoned your generica, and now express a point of view, and a rather fiesty one at that. Before this morning, I had read all of your posts with fascination, watching as you expressed an opinion on virtually every subject that was raised on the FB without revealing even a glimmer of a clue as to who you are and what you think. Your screen name is generic. Your location is generic. Even your tag line, part of one of the most-quoted lines of a hugely over-quoted movie, is (for the reasons just described) generic. The, suddenly this morning . . .
Anyhoo, so, like, what gives?
Sincerely,
Pretty Little Flower
