I think one of the issues the Heartlanders have with the Coastal Types is that the Coastal Types believe you can substitute all sorts of words ("morality," "common sense") for "intelligence" in the above sentence and have it rung just as true. The delusion of the absolute universality of one's own belief structure is a dangerous hubris. It's like religion.
