It's not creepy. It's the same as any other gift. I'm sure she hinted at wanting them or outright asked for them. If that's the case, it's like any other gift.
If he bought them for her as a way of saying, "You suck, but these will make you better," it would be fucked up, but for the fact that she likes them so much she agreed to appear in the paper to express her excitement.

Besides, all we've seen so far is verbal abuse. That push was nothing without the verbal abuse leading up to it. If they had been messing around and he pushed her that hard, no one would be saying anything.*
There will always be a complete asshole on every season after it worked so well last season. They wanted to go further this time and I bet they were hoping all during filming that he wouldn't clock her. They just want you to think he might
