The National . . . Football . . . League
Public Service Announcement.
Here's my thoughts regarding week one of the NFL Playoffs.
St. Louis at Seattle (-4): I don't see how the Seahawks win this game barring about 5 interceptions. Their defense cannot stop anyone when it matters. The Rams have their problems, great big ones, but I think they've got enough to beat this Seattle team. Add the four points, and that's my pick. Tread lightly though.
Jets at San Diego (-7): Pick of the Year. When will this Chargers team get some respect? Jets will have no answer for LT, no answer for Gates, no answer for Brees. And if the Jets fall behind early, which they likely will (SD has scored a huge number of first-drive touchdowns), well Chad Pennington is no Peyton Manning. Lay the 7 points, Chargers win going away.
Speaking of which . . .
Denver at Indy (-10): Well last year the Colts won in the first round against Denver 41-0. And this year they're better . . . and Denver's worse. Lay the 10 points.
finally
Minny at GB (-6): Avoid betting on this game unless you absolutely have to. In a normal league, you'd say all the momentum favors GB, and that the Vikings are self-destructing, and you'd load up on the Packers. However, this is the NFL, where about 40% of the time, the exact opposite happens. Has Randy Moss been trying to lull opposing defenses to sleep by faking injuries, just biding his time until the playoffs? I don't really think Al Harris can cover a healthy Randy Moss. And remember the Packers' "tackling" in Week 16 . . . . still, I'm leaning towards GB-6.
Best bet: Tease SD and Indy 7 points and bet the house.
