I'm not in a particularly humid part of the country--Portland is no DC or NY in the summer. Seattle isn't humid during the summer either.
Get a fan -- I recommend Vornado. I am not keen on A/C and thus barely run it even though it tends to get a little sticky down here in the "Old South." I use fans and I personally believe that they keep you cooler than A/C (unless you use your A/C in such a manner as to make a refrigerator obsolete). In any event, you can take your mind off of how hot you are by talking into the fan and listening to your voice change.
