Those guys were teased mercilessly and hassled on a daily basis, except for Shannon, who grew into a very very large kid and began doling out punishment on his own.
I think you can be more creative with girls' names, but within reason. If you want to be really creative, save it for their middle name, and let them decide later on what they want to be called. It just seems cruel to burden a kid with a funky name, especially when they are young and don't particularly want to be set apart from the crowd.
Just my $0.02.

Boys names: I thought I had given my son quite a normal name until we walked into pre-k and found three other Jordan's (two girls and two boys total including mine). Not sure if he will take shit for it or not. How the hell was I to know that Jordan is now a girl's name??
Girls names: My parents got a little creative with mine. Of course, it would be "normal" if I were Canadian, male and involved with professional hockey! In the States it is a girl's name but I grew up in a border region and yes I took some shit for having a "boy's" name. Oh yeah, apparently nobody else in the fucking world (boy or girl) spells it the way mine is spelled. Here's looking at ya, mom and dad -- you fucking morons.
