That latitude 46 Cuvee in my post could hold up to bbq.
Going a lighter, fruitier way, but staying with that same vinyard, latittude 46 (which was new to me but my fave local wine store just turned me onto), I went with a gewurtztraminer tonight.
Two thumbs up!
Latitude 46º N Gewurztraminer, Celilo Vineyard 2004
There was a day when the future looked bright for gewürztraminer; one made by Associated Vintners helped put them on the map. It was thought to be one of Washington’s grapes. Then the market changed and vineyards were ripped up or were grown with volume as a goal as opposed to quality. But this fruit has been in the ground at Celilo since the late 1970’s just waiting for someone to pay it proper attention. Now someone has, because this is the best Washington gewürztraminer I have tasted in a long time and one of the most distinctive Washington whites I have seen in a while. It shows tons of fruit balanced by lively acidity and just a hint of sweetness. I know that many of you probably haven’t had a gewürztraminer in a long time but this is one you should try.
