Tell him to go down to a banana republic (not the store) and smoke a lot of weed. Or go to Breckenridge and work for the mountain and smoke a lot of weed. Or backpack through Europe, stopping often in Amsterdam to smoke a lot of weed. Tell him to fuck off for an entire year while bartending and trying to set records for benders.
