Not a farmboy, but I've been around PLENTY of rednecks.
And, for some reason, my body seems to have adapted to the running. No disgusting feet. No nip problems.
I do wear the short shorts for racing, but not on training runs. Sorry. Runners really don't have a choice b/c...well I won't get into that...
