Wait -- they might respond that the opinions of multiple persons, in the aggregate, may well matter. They might also argue that, in a country of close to 300 million people, damn few opinions are held by a total of one person.

????????? What the hell are you talking about? I just said that polls were useful and so where focus groups. Then why is that a a recommendation for them to pack it all in?

These guys use statistics to try and determnine what the overall public is thinking. In case you forgot your statistics they need more than one opinion in their sample. An opinion of one person without any other information is about as useful as a solar panel in Portland.
