In any event -- I didn't think that SF cancelled them. I did a little searching and all I saw was that the navy gave some non-substantive reasons for the Blue Angels not coming in 2004. Were they really cancelled by SF? Who? I couldn't imagine Newsom doing that, and if it was the Supes there would be some press about it but I'm not remembering or finding any.
According to the Navy website, however, the Blue Angels will be here this year. It's the one thing I miss about my last home -- I had an amazing view of them from my roof.

I remember reading that it was cancelled due to money issues, but I don't recall the specifics. I had conversations with the local merchants in my area and they were pissed because it is one of the biggest weekends of the year for them. I also understand that the city lost millions in parking and other fees from the event.
