Their account said that some of the people who were in the hotels
evacuated to the hotels. I'd guess that if you see a native checking in to avoid the hurricane you'd figure it was safe enough to stay put.
And if the conditions were intolerable for paramedics, who are trained to be pretty damned squeamish, it must have been just awful.
