My guess is yes, though I have nothing really to back the claim up with. I imagine that some of them are concerned about pissed off litigants. This is the only case that I know of in the modern era, though, where the armed judge ran (actually limped, the judge claimed he was armed because he had a pronounced limp) down a suspect and administered lead justice off the bench during the lunch hour.
