During the reveal, one of them said something about how maybe now she'll keep the place in order. (BTW, best line of that episode was, as always, from Carson: "Everybody loves a pearl necklace!")

You know, though, I like that they put responsibility on presentation and decoration of the house on him too. Whether or not he has anything to do with it, it's a reflection on him that the house looked so godamned awful. Leaving everything up to her clearly didn't work, and he wasn't helping matters by letting everything slide.
