Considering that they used the card to buy computer equipment from Sears, the high tech hacker angle sounds unlikely. There are a lot of low tech ways to get your information without having the card. Have you rented a car recently? Some years ago there was a credit card fraud ring out of a car rental desk at O'Hare. An employee sold all the information from the rental forms to the thieves.
