Pick up the "Live in Austin, TX" CD that came out a few months ago. Great live version. Plus, "Persuasion," which I think is beautiful.
It's a new series of CDs and DVDs put out by the Austin City Limits folks. I think they haven't released a lot of the performances so far on CD and DVD because of the number of rights involved, and I've noticed that most of the performances that have been released so far are from singer/songwriter types who generally play their own music. But they're releasing them quickly, so someone over at ACL has decided to fast-track the series. It didn't exist when I was at the festival in 2004.
The first set was Steve Earle, Steve Earle, Susan Tedeschi, Robert Earl Keen, and The Flatlanders. The second set was Lucinda Williams, Sun Volt and Richard Thompson. The third set (came out November 1) was Dwight Yoakam, John Hiatt, Eric Johnson and the Texas Tornados.
Johnny Cash came out two days ago.
ETA:
Link to series website.
ETA2: The Stevie Ray Vaughn DVD called "
Live from Austin, TX" is also from his ACL performance, but it's not part of the same series. You can get it, and all of the other ACL spun off CDs and DVDs off of the
Waterloo Records* website. I really rather like
this compilation CD.
