It seemed to me like they were trying to do something like Will & Grace, where her gay guy friend and sarcastic girlfriend were supposed to carry some portion of the load for comedy. Except that they weren't really funny at all.

In fairness, if it didn't involve a scene with her naked on roller skates, it'd be hard to compare favorably to her prior work.
