Guys from the PD's offices could work a courtroom, but the complicated cases that involved complicated pre-trial motions and complex issue were beyond them. PDs are overworked and too often forced to wing a large part of their cases. If I were in the can and needed a ringer, I'd get myself an ex-AUSA.
I wouldn't think PD work would make defense lawyers better. Mandatory PD work might raise the quality of defense of the people who have PDs, though.
