Allen-Edmonds has about a dozen different lasts that they use. The model numbers of the shoes indicate which last is used for which shoe. If you go to their web site, they explain the differences and how to tell which last is used for which shoe.
For instance, I really like the look of the Fairfax. I was going to buy them in both back and brown. However, I learned from the web site that they are stretched on the narrowest last AE uses. MY foot is wider than that, so I wound up choosing a different model.

My god. I was wearing my Fairfaxes yesterday, and that was the exact shoe I recommended to Ty offline. Scare-ee.
And yes, they do run narrow. And long. But the 9.5E fits me perfectly, like a typical 10D.
PS - they are apparantly discontinuing that shoe, so they are 25% off at the AE store
