The word "retarded" has an actual meaning. When I use it, much like almost all of the other words I use, I am invoking that meaning. In your case, when I use it, the specific definition I am applying is "slow or limited in intellectual or emotional development : characterized by mental retardation." I am fully aware that it is often used with a negative conotation. However, the word itself is not the problem. I could just as easily call you differently-abled, special or slow, but they all mean the same thing, essentially. Therefore, if the problem is that I am likening you to someone with a mental deficiency and that is simply not allowed, well then I guess I am an offensive asshole.
But the fact is, I am not poking fun at anyone with a mental deficiency when I call you "retarded" (although, I'm sure they would not want to be compared to you). I am simply calling attention to your mental deficiencies.

There was nothing in my post that betrayed any confidence of any offline conversation. I don't do that. In a rhetorical way, I was citing a common misperception that I get tagged with. regardless of that and for all of your bullshit bobbing and weaving in your response, you know and acknowledge that people can find the "retarded" offensive, it doesn't apply here literally, there are lots of other words that are deragatory that could be argued to be applicable. When I said, I was sensitive to the perceptions of others, because I had been caught in a situation where someone else's perceptions were brought to my attention as being at odds with my intentions. You basically said, as far as I can tell, such things as others perceptions would not make a difference to you as long as you felt your intentions regarding the use of the word were okay.
My point is, this is the mark of a true asshole. A truly fucking insensitive asshole. Which in the past is soemthing I think I have been painted as being., but I could give a fuck less what you call me, other than to point out your hypocrasy.
