Not that Dallas is a huge market, but the mayor who then went back to BigTex was at BigTex before he became mayor. Ron Kirk. I'm no Ron Kirk buff, and I didn't start the Ron Kirk fan club or even join as a member, but I believe that his career path was BigTex associate, BigTex partner, mayor of Dallas, BigTex partner. I think he stayed of counsel at that firm while he was mayor too, which resulted in some potential conflicts, but also bolstered his $30k income from the city during that period.
After his mayor stint I believe he ran for US Senate was was defeated in the primary by Kay Bailey Hutcheson. Though I may have exact details wrong here, because I didn't pay
that much attention to Dallas politics.
