I agree striving to be a good employee and a good spouse are honorable traits - but
having a job (or not) and
having a spouse (or not) do not impact one's ability to be (or not be) a good person. You made it sound as though until you have a job and a spouse, you aren't even eligible to try to be a good person. Again, I don't really think you mean that, but it is how it sounds.
