Some people shouldn't become parents. If a person recognizes that about him/herself and avoids parenthood, I respect that a whole lot more than someone who has a child because s/he was trying to live up to someone else's ideal of what a "complete" life is.

In fairness, Hank's wife thought that it would be a mistake for him to be a parent, with his history of.....well, you know the sordid tale......which is why* she avoided sex with him before and after they were married, but we both agree, he has done fine in the role of non-biological "dad". People can grow into it.
