On the former, I think it depends on the man and who is saying it. On the latter, Flinty told me it only hurts when it's true.

If you're a guy and a girl you really like and respect tells you she thinks you're too busted to date, it would be as deeply scarring as if it happened to a woman. Guys laugh it off when they're in a bar and some girl says the same after a dumb line. But in that kind of situation, so do women.

Hell, my criticism of The Notorious F.A.T. shouldn't have bothered her at all. She doesn't fucking know me. There is no reason to value my opinion and any sane person would have said, "I and my husband disagree," and that would have been the end of it. And, although I've met ugly girls who think they're hot, I have yet to meet a hot girl who doesn't know it on some level. The ones who are and know it don't let insults about their looks bother them that much, unless it comes from someone they care about and/or respect.
