Oh, for heaven's sake. Do you think she wasn't speaking hyperbolically? Sahm-dom as slavery is pretty much a thing of the past, at least among those of us have the luxury of choosing it (not that I actually chose it, exactly, but that's another story). The most degrading thing I have to do any more is change the occasional poopy diaper, and that's hardly ruining my life. The rest of the distasteful stuff (scrubbing toilets, pulling weeds, getting up early in the morning) is contracted out (or in, in the case of the getting up part).
